6 water sources identified in study
The proposed Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Project’s Preparatory Technical Assistance (PPTA) recommends six (6) additional water sources if the project pushes through. These are from Danao, Luyang water from Carmen, new wells, new bulk water contracts, desalinated water and additional water which will be recovered through non-revenue water (NRW) reduction. This was presented during the dissemination workshop conducted by the PPTA consultants in a workshop on March 8-9, 2012 at the ParkLane Hotel, Cebu City.
Metropolitan Cebu Water District’s (MCWD) General Manager Armando H. Paredes said that MCWD envisions to increase its service capacity to 60% in 2020 from its current 38% service coverage. This worthy undertaking demands extensive preparation, such as pipeline rehabilitation works, the laying of new distribution lines, a comprehensive NRW program and additional water supply to augment the water district’s current average daily production of 189,000 cu.m. per day. GM Paredes assured that MCWD will enter into a loan agreement only when it becomes necessary and when the project is feasible for MCWD. Any tariff adjustments that will be brought about by the development will go through the process including a public hearing.
