Because hotter days are here, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) donated used drums for water storage to Barangay Opao, Mandaue City which can store up to 200 liters each.

The barangay can store water for drinking using the drums as these come with easy-open cover to prevent water contamination. The drums can also be used as rainwater catchment.

MCWD chose Barangay Opao to be the recipient of the drums because the area is among those that have low water supply. Barangay Councilor Ernesto Naparate, who received the drums on behalf of the barangay council, thanked the water district because he knows the drums will be of big help in their water supply problem.

“Dako jud namong pasalamat sa MCWD kay dako ni og tabang namo kay naa jud

panahon nga hinay ang agas sa tubig,” Naparate said.

The barangay will also reserve water to be distributed to families during summer. “Sa higayon nga duna tay mga igsoon nga way tubig, mohatag ta kay duna may panahon nga ang barangay nanghatag sad sa mga buwan nga lisod gyud ang tubig,” Naparate said.

He further said they can let their constituents borrow the drums when needed. Although MCWD’s restoration of water supply is now at 98 percent after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette two months ago, water is not yet 24 hours available in all areas. Thus, MCWD urges its consumers to store water during off peak hours when the consumption of water is at the minimum.

The donation of drums is MCWD’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
