Water supply partially restored in 98 barangays within MCWD service area

On New Year’s Eve, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District has partially restored water supply in 98 barangays within its service area. MCWD’s daily production is now 157,800 cubic meters of water per day or 65.8 percent of its normal 240,000 meters of water a day. Of the 138 production wells,76 already operations with 42 wells powered by Visayan Electric and 34 have generator sets installed.

MCWD’s service area includes Talisay City, Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapulapu City, Cordova, Consolacion, Liloan and Compostela. Meanwhile, the Local Water Utilities Association (LWUA) sent personnel to assess the water situation in Cebu and other provinces in order to determine the assistance they can provide to water districts.

LWUA Management Advisor Ramon Ordoño was in Cebu on December 25 to personally lead his team and see for himself the damage Typhoon Odette has brought to the people. Initially, Task Force Odette, a joint initiative of LWUA, Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) and Philippine Water Works Association (PWWA), in coordination with the Office of the President, distributed free water to five different barangays within the service area of MCWD on Christmas Day. The task force rented five 10-cubic water tankers and these were deployed to Lahug and Cogon-Ramos in Cebu City as well as Jubay, Pitogo, and San Vicente in Liloan town.
