Engr. Stephen D. Yee, Acting General Manager of Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), receives a plaque of recognition during MCWD’s 47th anniversary celebration as one of the three employees who has served the water district for 40 years.

As it turns 47 years old this month, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) reassured the public to carry on with its commitment to serve the people of Metro Cebu by providing safe, potable and affordable water. It has doubled its efforts to find additional water sources to serve its consumers better. One of its major undertakings is the on-going bulk water project from Lusaran River which is expected to be operational by January 2023. MCWD, founded on February 1, 1975, recently celebrated 47 years of its operations. Amid the pandemic and the recent Typhoon Odette, MCWD, through the unwavering commitment of its employees, was able to rise above the challenges. “An organization like ours is nothing and would be nothing without the people behind it,” MCWD Acting General Manager Stephen Yee said adding that the success of the company is a testament to the competence of the hardworking people who have run it through the years. To mark this significant event, long-time employees who have been with MCWD were honored for their loyalty and dedicated service to the water district. Yee, who himself was a 40-year service awardee, said that for 47 years, also told the men and women of MCWD to realize that it is a privilege to serve the people of Metro Cebu. “All of you, who shed blood, sweat and tears throughout the years and especially during these challenging times to make MCWD successful as it is right now, thank you and congratulations,” he said. All 67 service awardees were recognized through a simple ceremony where each received acrylic plaque one by one in a given set of time to observe physical distancing. Of the 67 service awardees, three (3) have been serving for 40 years already. They are, apart from Yee, Edna A. Inocando who is the Public Information Division Manager, and Arnulfo G. Ycong, a Plant Equipment Operator of the Production Department. Those who have served for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years were also recognized for their valuable contribution to the water district. One employee who, in her personal efforts, completed an additional degree to improve competencies for better public service also received recognition. The first 100 consumers who paid their water bills at the MCWD main building were given tote bags as token of appreciation.
